Summary:
M. Kamil Abd-Rahman received his Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. degrees in the field of semiconductor and fiber lasers; and currently focuses the research on the properties of photonic materials, sensors, and waveguides. He is an (Hon.) Professor of Physics at the School of Materials and Physics, Faculty of Applied Science, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia and has held several positions, among others, Dep. Dean of Faculty of Applied Science; Head of Postgraduate Studies; Research Fellow at Research & Development Depart. of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TMRND); Visiting Scholars in Istituto Di Fotonica E Nanotecnologie, University of Trento, Italy and ?stanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Turkey; Visiting Professor at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia; co-founder and heads UiTM Photonics Research group in 2003 till 2018. He won 20 innovation gold and silver awards, besides the Best of the Best award in optical sensors, waveguides, and lasers. He owns four patents in optical fiber laser, waveguides, attenuator, and transmitter in collaborations with Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is a member of the Expert Panel for R&D funded projects at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation; and a member of the Institute of Physics (UK); Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (USA); European Physical Society; and Malaysian Solid State Science and Technology Society. He has published more than 190 articles in journals, conference proceedings, and several book chapters. Secured several research grants totaling more than 2.5M Malaysian Ringgit and headed RM108k consultation project in Kuala Lumpur entitled “Hill Slope Early Warning Detection System and Fiber Optics Interrogation System”.
